Joy Gibson lives in Tampa, with her husband Robert of 12 years and their daughter Saniah age 6, son Kadin age 10, Caleb age 9 and their 3-year-old rescue dog, Pepper.

Born in a family of nine siblings, Joy understands the importance of strong family values and financial security. She knows what it means to have every voice count and is driven to give a voice to people who are marginalized by institutions and public policies.

As a college student, Joy became active in grassroots advocacy while attending Michigan State University (MSU) where she received her bachelor of science degree. At MSU, she walked neighborhoods and educated consumers on laws that impacted their buying decisions through the Michigan Consumer Rights Federation. While sitting in on legislative sessions in Michigan’s State Senate and The House of Representatives in Washington D.C. Joy saw first hand, how students and families were being left behind in laws and policies.

Joy left Washington to work in a congressional district office. While working for Congress, she monitored news sources and developed relationships with representatives of the media and responded to concerns of constituents.

Joy added value to each sector she worked in and dedicated over 15 years of her life to public advocacy, organizational leadership, diversity and inclusion while working in government, nonprofits and local and statewide elections, including her husband’s successful political campaign. As a non-profit consultant, Joy devoted her time and talents to making organizations strong by building leadership and financial capacity.

Joy received special recognition from the Arab American Community Center for Economic Social Services (ACCESS) for her vital role in the multi-million-dollar campaign to institutionalize the history and contributions of Arab Americans through the nation’s first Arab American National Museum. Joy is proud to be recorded on the founder’s wall of the museum.

When Joy and her husband Robert were married in 2005, she left Michigan but continued to work with organizations that advanced the education and participation of citizens in the political process.

She worked closely with Mi Familia Vota (MFV)--a national organization designed to strengthen the voice of Latinos and immigrants through civic engagement. Working alongside MFV’s board, she led the efforts to establish national leadership committees in key states and attract vital resources.

Joy and her family purchased a home in Tampa in 2012 where they continue to raise their family. As a young mom, Joy often felt alone and restless after leaving the work environment so she established a faith-based group for women to connect, lead and receive support for everyday struggles. Within the group, Joy encouraged women to give back to their communities through partnerships with local charities and nonprofit groups, such as foster homes, women’s shelters and food pantries.

Joy is a member of the NAACP, and is very passionate about economic and educational opportunities that are accessible to all children, regardless of where they live. While serving as PTSA President of Turner Bartels K-8 in 2017, she and the board raised nearly $90,000 and brought educational reading and language programs to students at an affordable cost. Additionally, she continues to support multiple charities and groups in her community including Feeding Tampa Bay, Heavenly Helpers and Nathaniel’s Hope, which gives support to families who have a child with special needs or a disability.

After helping dozens of friends develop new career paths or kick start their business, Joy became a Life Coach, to pursue her heart for empowering women of all ages to manifest their deepest passions and foster life-changing transformation within their communities.

Joy recently founded MomNiche Inc. - a nonprofit which promotes entrepreneurial leadership, connects women with opportunities for personal and professional development and directs resources to women in business.
